Pipe ramming is a trenchless technology, wherein a steal or plastic pipe with its open side is rammed into the ground at the required depth. This process is done progressively: behind every 6 m long pipe segment a new one is added. After all pipe segments are rammed in, they are cleaned off spoils. The rammed pipe can be used for its intended purpose, or as the casing for smaller pipes or cables.

Two pits shall be prepared for the pipe ramming, whereas the ground surface between them remains intact.

Pipe ramming is the optimal solution, when:

the surface of the land shall not be damaged (as in the case when a road or railroad goes or a building stands above the planned communication lines, a dam is built up above, or when the existing landscaping shall be preserved);
maximal construction length is up to 60 m.

Pipe ramming is appropriate for installation of subsurface utility service infrastructure of various application. Pipes from 100 to 1400 mm in diameter can be installed. The technology is not suitable when the soil is filled with rocks or boulders, thus investigation of the soil shall be performed first.
